Gold Advocacy Lecture: Judge Yves-Marie Morissette, Qu\u00e9bec Court of Appeal, \u201cQuerulous and Abusive Litigants, past and present\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The second lecture of the season: The Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Jennifer Stoddart, \u201cEnforcing Privacy in the Online World\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The Annual Human Rights Lecture: Jayne Stoyles, Executive Director Canadian Centre for International Justice, \u201cBringing international war criminals to justice: the status of international and domestic Law\u201d. In recognition of her exceptional contribution to the field of human rights, the LRLS presented to Ms. Stoyles one of our highest honours, the Lord Reading Law Society Human Rights Award.<\/li>\n<li>The Annual Students\u2019 Lecture: Mtre. Sylvain Lussier, Osler Hoskin &amp; Harcourt, \u201cSolicitor-client Privilege: from evidentiary rule to constitutional right\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The Henry Steinberg Memorial Lecture: Mr. Lawrence Kaye, Esq., Co-Chair of the Art Law Group (New York) at Herrick, Feinstein LLP, \u201cShow me the Monet: litigation strategies when suing to recover art stolen during the Holocaust\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The final lecture of the season: Mr. Justice Thomas Cromwell, Supreme Court of Canada, \u201cSound Professional Judgment: The Lawyer\u2019s Most Important Attribute\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">During my term as President, one of my goals was to increase the presence and participation of the next generation of the Society\u2019s members and future leaders.\u00a0 I am happy to report that we accomplished this goal and that the LRLS is in great hands.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Overall, we had a terrific year, which was wonderfully summarized in a poem presented to me by our amazing First Vice-President, Robin Schiller, as I passed on the baton to her as incoming President.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Ode to a President<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Oh President, our President<br \/>\nWhat dare we officers say?<br \/>\nTo honor all your efforts<br \/>\nAnd not scare future Presidents away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When colleagues were relaxing<br \/>\nDuring summer days of yore,<br \/>\nThe pavement you were pounding<br \/>\nTo replace the Montefiore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">With fall quickly approaching<br \/>\nAnd options oh so few,<br \/>\nSt. James would win the contract<br \/>\nBut had they ever fed a Jew?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Oh President, our President<br \/>\nAt first you were so wary,<br \/>\nYou chose to walk the lonely path<br \/>\nOf Delegatus non potest delegare.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But as the falling leaves<br \/>\nMade way for winter\u2019s snow,<br \/>\nOh President, our President<br \/>\nYou learned how to let go.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">With the club issue behind you<br \/>\nThe stage was finally set,<br \/>\nFor Querulous pleaders and 54.1<br \/>\nThe Honourable Yves Morissette.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Social Networks beckon<br \/>\nThey cast their nets so wide,<br \/>\nCommissioner Stoddard taught us<br \/>\nThere is nothing you can hide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We like to honour activists<br \/>\nWe appreciate their toils,<br \/>\nWe recognized humanity<br \/>\nIn the efforts of Jayne Stoyles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But benevole is not a song<br \/>\nThat many of us sing,<br \/>\nJustice, justice we will chant<br \/>\nIf clients it will bring.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Me Lussier came to teach us<br \/>\nTo choose the winning side,<br \/>\nIf you\u2019re not sure what side that is<br \/>\nPick up your conflicts guide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This institution shares its past<br \/>\nWith ancestors who perished,<br \/>\nLawrence Kaye showed us oh so well<br \/>\nWe could recover what they cherished.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">What better way to end your Term<br \/>\nThan with Justice Cromwell\u2019s talk,<br \/>\nLet honesty always be your guide<br \/>\nMake sure you walk the walk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Oh President, our President<br \/>\nAs your term comes to an end,<br \/>\nWe may not call you President<br \/>\nBut we\u2019ll certainly call you friend.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][mk_padding_divider size=&#8221;70&#8243;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][mk_custom_sidebar sidebar=&#8221;sidebar-1&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][mk_revslider id=&#8221;about&#8221;][mk_padding_divider size=&#8221;70&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text align=&#8221;center&#8221; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1506972236187{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}&#8221;] 2010-2011 David Stolow It was a privilege and a pleasure for me to serve as the Lord Reading Law Society\u2019s President in 2010-2011.
