To conclude our historic 75th anniversary season, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Michael Geist, a distinguished professor at the University of Ottawa, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-commerce Law, will be our honoured guest for the annual Human Rights Lecture, with a fireside chat entitled “Fighting Internet Hate: The Online Harms Act and Bill C-63.”
Dr. Geist will be interviewed on stage by the Society’s longtime Communications Director Allen Mendelsohn, who teaches Internet Law at McGill. Opening remarks will be delivered by Society member and University of Ottawa Professor Karen Eltis, cyberlaw and innovation law expert and former director of the uOttawa Human Rights Centre. Karen will also moderate a question period.
In addition, the Society is pleased to announce that the Society’s Human Rights Award will be awarded on the 23rd to Maître Neil Oberman, whose invaluable contributions to defending the Jewish community through various legal means amidst the rising tide of antisemitism are truly commendable.
